Brief Bio Dr Bernadette Ward is a Senior Research Fellow in the CRERRPHC in the School of Rural Health at Monash University Bendigo. Bernadette is leading several projects within the CRERRPHC, including a review of the role of access in health service utilisation and health outcomes, a national survey on access to primary health care in rural and remote Australia, and the supervision and support of the Victorian Research Capacity Building Program participants. She is also working on a Cochrane review examining how changes in out-of-pocket payments influence health service utilisation, and pursuing research in the evaluation of primary health care services and the delivery of alcohol and other drug services in the primary care sector.

Prior to joining Monash, Bernadette was a Lecturer in Public Health at La Trobe University, and before that she was awarded an NHMRC scholarship to undertake her PhD entitled “The role of parents in influencing adolescent alcohol use”.

Bernadette has been a Fellow of the Victorian Public Health Training Scheme where she conducted research into a range of public health issues, and has published in a wide range of national and international journals. Her interest in rural and remote health stems from many years of primary health practice in remote Australia.
